However, a P0011 code indicates an advanced camshaft timing issue that is resistant to PCM commands. The conditions for when this code is set to vary significantly between manufacturers. However, if the engine has a V shape, the “A” normally designates the bank 1 intake camshaft. What about the code sections beginning with “A” and Bank 1 on some vehicles? In a straight or inline overhead camshaft engine, “A” usually refers to the intake camshaft. The cam and crank sensors show that it cannot attain the objective that it is programmed to aim for. The code indicates that a discrepancy between the target camshaft position angle and the actual camshaft position angle has been detected and cannot be corrected by the ECM/PCM. The P0011 DTC code denotes “A Camshaft Position Timing Over Advanced” or “System Performance Bank 1”. In plain English, the ECM is signaling that the timing on the intake camshaft of your car is out of whack. This problem can develop when the camshaft timing is advanced or retarded. This error code is stored by the engine control module (ECM) when it decides that the “Bank 1 Intake Camshaft” is positioned further advanced than the ECM intended. Fair warning: if the P0011 OBD-II trouble code is not a one-off error, it probably signifies a significant issue.
